Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus

Don't be fooled by my lack of posts lately, we have been super busy exploring! Cam's parents came for a visit during the last couple of weeks so we had a blast showing them around to both our favourite spots, and some new ones.

Not long after Cam arrived, he had gone paddle boarding with some teammates on Lake Lucerne. It was one of the places he was most excited about showing me when I arrived. We had been wanting to make the trip here ever since, but it kept getting pushed back to do other things. Lucerne is on every "Must See" list you will read about Switzerland, and it was easy to see why.

One of the city's most famous landmarks is the Chapel Bridge. It is a wooden foot bridge that spans the river diagonally, and is filled with old paintings from the 17th century. Most pictures of the city feature the bridge in one way or another, so after seeing them all, it was neat to finally be standing on it.

As are most of the towns this time of year, Lucerne was decorated for Christmas. The decorations give these towns such a different feel and its so magical. Especially at night, the lights strung across the narrow roads light the whole town up. We had fun walking through the streets and seeing all the shops (especially the windows of the ones we would never afford).

A big attraction near Lucerne is the round trip up Mt. Pilatus. The trip on the gondolas is quite long, so we knew we would need a whole day to make it work. There was only one day this week that Cam had completely off, so this is the day we went. We were so excited to go and this was the day we were most looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was foggy and snowing at the top, so we barely got to see anything.

Knowing what we know now, this trip is only going to be worth it if you have a clear day. Its pretty pricey compared to other gondolas we have gone on, as it requires three different stops. You can tell by the length of the ride and immediate surroundings that the view would be incredible on a clear day.

The snow covered trees made the ride up so pretty, but that is pretty much all we could see. At the very top, when we should have been seeing amazing landscape of the lake and mountains, we saw sheets of white. If we were to do it again, we wouldn't bother going unless it was better weather. Seriously, google pictures at the top, it looks unbelievable.

We definitely plan to go back at some point to see what we missed out on this day. Either way, we still really enjoyed the city of Lucerne, and we had a great day.
