On our way home from Lugano, we stopped in Bellinzona. Its the capital city in the Canton of Ticino. It is known for its 3 medieval castles, although we only visited one as the other two were closed due to the off season.

We explored the courtyard of the castle and around the outside which was basically a big wall with green grass inside. We have explored a few castles so far, and this was the first we have seen with a lawn in a wall like this.

From this castle, the Grande Castle, you can see the other two. The photo below was taken through the window of the castle we were visiting:

It was a Sunday, so everything in the town was closed which made it a quick stop. If you're in the area, or visiting Lugano, it would be a nice place for a quick stop and walk around. I'm still deciding which of the castles we have seen would be the best to live in...but this one is for sure in the running. The views of the mountain, green grass lawns and endless walls make it a strong contestant. ;)
