A Cozy Chalet in Vissoie

We had planned on going to Rome this Christmas, but didn't end up having enough time. I am so glad it worked out that way, because a weekend in a cozy chalet in the Alps was the perfect way to spend our first Christmas away from home.
If you have never heard of Vissoie in your research on Switzerland, don't worry, I hadn't either. A friend of Cam owns a Chalet in Vissoie, which is in the South-West region of Switzerland where we wanted to go, so it worked out perfectly.

Vissoie (pictured above) is only about 1.5 square kms and is one of the villages that make up Anniviers. With an elevation of around 1,202 meters, it is basically built into the side of a mountain.

The drive there had beautiful views, but was so scary! Being in the passenger seat, looking out the window was pretty much off limits for me. When I did, I was looking over a 1000m cliff. The road was so dark and narrow. Cam did a great job driving, but it was quite the experience to get up there.

The climb of a drive was definitely worth waking up to this view in the morning. We had incredible weather the whole weekend, and the fresh mountain air was just the break we needed.

Although we didn't spend much of our time in the area, it was a great place to stay. It was in between the activities we had planned and was so incredibly cozy. I couldn't have dreamed of a better way to spend Christmas abroad.
