So far since we've been in Aalborg, Cam has actually had a great schedule. We had two breaks in December, and another for New Year's. Towards the end of Cam's parent's visit, he played a game near Copenhagen and had the following few days off so we took full advantage.

After his game, we headed in to Copenhagen and checked into our AirBnb. We dropped our stuff and headed out for dinner at a spot around the corner. After a quick dinner we headed out to check out the town at night.

It was a Sunday so all the shopping streets were pretty quiet but still, as always, one of my favourite things to do. Walking through streets of Europe, especially when things are closed, will never get old, especially at Christmas time.

I think every town in Europe becomes more special for the month of December when they get decorated for the season. This is something that I really wished happened more back home, the lights across the street makes it so fun to just roam around the city. With the lights and smells of roasted nuts everywhere, it makes me a little sad when January rolls around.

The next morning after waking up and having breakfast at the local food market, we headed towards the round tower to see the city from above.

The tower has no stairs but just the ramp you see above that goes around, and around, and around... until you're just about dizzy before coming out the door at the top.

There's been very few places that we have visited that haven't had some sort of tower to give you the view from above. I'm always saying to Cam that places never look like they do in postcards because its never the same view from the bottom. So we make sure to go up them all lol, even if sometimes you just see more rooftops. I don't think I've ever regretted going up though.

After coming down from the tower, we walked towards the Amalienborg Palace, seeing Frederik's Church on the way. It still always amazes me the amount of places we come across by mistake.

Not that I know much, or anything, about the Danish Royals, it's still cool to see their residence. This palace is made up of four Identical buildings in a square, each belonging to different royals.

We planned our visit to match up with the changing of the guard time, sort of. I actually miss-read the times and we had to wait a little while (oops!). There were a couple palaces in Copenhagen but we realized after that a lot of sights are closed here on Monday, so we just visited the grounds of this one.

After the guards, we headed towards the famous Little Mermaid Statue. This walk was probably the coldest part of the day. It was so windy, and when not in the sun it got really cold. The mermaid statue was smaller than we expected, but another thing you "have to do" when visiting Copenhagen.

Can you tell by Cam's face, and how my hands are curled into fists inside my mittens, how warm it was out? Lol. Heading back towards the other side of town, we were able to walk along the water where the sun was shining and it actually warmed us up a lot. It also may have been the hot chocolate we had to stop for. Either way, we were just thankful it wasn't raining.

We headed back for lunch in what quickly became my favourite part of town, Nyhavn. This area is what you see in the majority of pictures of Copenhagen. The river street lined with colourful buildings and beautiful ships.

Since it was coming up on Christmas, the street was decorated accordingly and a market was set up. Cam particularly liked all the samples of Gløgg (hot wine) as we figured out where to eat. Finding a restaurant quickly reminded up how pricey the city was lol. But we found a great meal along the water, and even sat outside under heaters for the first half.

I loved this place. I could have stood here and looked down this street all day, if it wasn't so cold.

It was time to head back to the AirBnb so we could take a break and layer up for our night out. We found a few more Christmas Markets along the way and a rooftop coffee shop.

After taking hot showers to warm up and putting on more layers, we headed to Tivoli Gardens. This is probably what we were most looking forward to, at least for Cam and I.

Tivoli Gardens is the amusement park in town, and is a big attraction, particularly at Christmas. The whole grounds are decorated with lights and a Christmas market.

As if roller coasters weren't enough to make us feel like kids again, the lights everywhere made it even more exciting.

I'm proud today we tried every ride there, even after I ate french fries. I definitely am starting to understand why my parents didn't want to go on rides at Disneyworld. The picture above is from the Ferris Wheel. It was a much needed slow down after going on the ride "Vertigo" that left me unable to walk in a straight line, haha. We had so much fun here, and since it was a Monday during the winter, there were no wait times. No waiting meant we got to do rides over and over...and over. I couldn't let Cam get ahead of me even after I started feeling dizzy.

Tivoli Gardens and Copenhagen will be a day to remember. Copenhagen is definitely a town that I will be sad if I don't get to see again. It's definitely one to add to your bucket list!
