A Rainy Weekend in Prague

Now that Christmas is over, and the New Year has started, we're taking a break from travelling. Cam is back into a more consistent hockey schedule and I have time to reminiscence on all the places we have been so far, instead of planning on where to head next.

Back in November, a few days after we returned from Budapest, we had a weekend off and decided to visit the long-awaited Prague. It feels like this trip was sooo long ago, way more than a couple of months. Life has been pretty chaotic since then and we've been so fortunate to do a lot of travelling, so I have to use the photos to remember everything we did in Czech's capital city.

We started the couple hour drive hoping the weather would clear, but it was pretty cool and damp for the time we were there. We left on a Friday morning, stayed the night and most of the next day, and returned on Saturday evening. We found we didn't need to stay long to take in everything we wanted to see and check out the main highlights Prague has to offer.

After checking into our AirBnb, we bundled up and started our own walking tour. The first place we headed to was the main square. The square was busy with people walking around, buskers and a ton of different restaurants and cafes.

The square is also where the medieval astronomical clock is, on the side of the old city hall. Every hour, on the hour, the show of the Twelve Apostles above the clock begins, and a huge crowd gathers. Essentially, its 12 little statues that rotate around as the clock bells chime. This is one of the main attractions in Prague, so of course we made sure to see it. We always laugh that things like this draw such a huge crowd, and that we're part of it. Hundreds of people to see mechanical statues spin around lol. But when you visit a city, you can't miss things that are so "famous"!

After the riveting show at the clock, we got some warm drinks to help us stay warm on the rest of our walk. The remainder of the night was mostly just us getting lost and walking around the city. We walked through the streets with all the shops lit up, saw the bridge at night, and of course, got some Trdelník.

The next morning, we got up to finish our tour. We started by crossing the bridge towards the opposite side of town. It was early when we started, so the bridge wasn't too busy and there were just a few buskers and people out exploring. By the time we crossed back over, it was so busy we had to push threw crowds on the way back.

Our first landmark was the Lennon Wall. This is simply a wall that is painted with art that is inspired by John Lennon and the Beatles, which started shortly after his death.

The wall is covered in some impressive art, graffiti and visitor's names. Its always changing with people painting on top of what is already there. Some of the paintings were amazing, and the others are so colorful.

After sneaking a few pictures in between the groups of people taking selfies, we headed up the hill towards the castle. We didn't bother going in to the castle, or the church because the line was hugeeee. We checked out the castle town and walked through the streets.

I think the views would have been pretty good from up here if it wasn't for the fog, because we could still see over most of the town.

We liked Prague because as we were walking, we would come across things that we wanted to see without meaning to. Things like the hanging man statue below that we just happened to look up and see as we were strolling around.

Overall, we enjoyed our trip to Prague but it wasn't our favourite city yet. There is a lot of history and things to see, and worth a stop if you're passing by. For us, a couple of days was enough to get what we wanted out of it!
